10/18/2021 - Diary entry #371

This week Atento, the largest provider of customer relationship management (CRM) and business-process outsourcing (BPO) services in Latin America, was hit by a ransomware attack. Atento currently operates in 14 countries, with more than 400 customers, including two of major banks in Brazil. Atento claims that the attack affected only the operation in Brazil, and that their incident response team is already working to restore the systems.

The ransomware Group Lockbit 2.0 claimed responsibility for the attack, and the company is already listed on Lockbit 2.0 wall-of-shame website. So far no data was published, but the company is listed under a countdown clock, showing that the stolen data (if any) is going to be published on October 25th, next week, if the ransom is not paid.

Lockbit 2.0 was already covered in our Daily Diaries #339, #325, #319 and #315, and is one of the most dangerous ransomware families active nowadays. Lockbit 2.0 wall-of-shame is one of the many monitored by our team's ransom tracker. Only in the last 7 days, they added 20 new targets to their platform.
