So the article is good enough to be dignified with a response, but the
response itself doesn't need to rise to the same standard?;-)

Yup. The law should be the primary criteria for assessing the ethics
of our actions. In cases where the law is not restrictive enough to
promote ethical conduct, we clearly need to tighten the law.
