[Dailydave] INFILTRATE - and conferences in general.

I think a lot of us have spent the last decade or so going to security
conferences. And frankly, a lot of them have been pretty bad. The last
BlackHat I went to was too big, and you spent much of your time walking
from one end of Cesears to the other if you wanted to see talks. At RSA
the talks are generally panels, which is another word for "low quality
and unprepared". Occasionally they are decent, but only by mistake. And
of course in many cons speakers do have a tendency to be writing their
slides the night before (or even the DAY OF), which means the talks have
weird structure, or are simply bad. At INFILTRATE, we counter this by
doing peer reviews - not just to let speaker's have a chance to run
through their talks, or force them to get their talks done in time, but
actually to provide the kind of commentary on their work that is sorely
missing from most modern conferences, with their usually unused question
periods.

In a way, a conference is a date. We want people to make high quality
connections at INFILTRATE. That's why it's a high end conference. Sure
you can do a conference at the local Hilton with crappy food and no free
alcohol, but you end up having a much less valuable experience. There's
a reason you don't take your dates out to Five Guys and make them buy
their own beer.

So in any case, you should come to INFILTRATE next week. It's a better
conference.
