[Dailydave] Why there's an INFILTRATE

It was one of our first INFILTRATEs when Thomas Lim gave a keynote
saying

in specific, that there were far too many security conferences. And he
was, of course right. And also one of our first keynotes when Thomas
Dullien talked about weird machines and JIT engines
<http://www.slideshare.net/scovetta/fundamentals-of-exploitationrevisited>and
the philosophy of bug classes and the endless hope of security research.
He was also right.

All that work on automatically analyzing and owning Microsoft domains
actually came from a Microsoft Research talk at INFILTRATE
<https://vimeo.com/album/3416096/video/133292422>. This is true of a lot
of the talks at INFILTRATE.

The OpenCFP to INFILTRATE 2017 is now running:
https://opencfp.immunityinc.com/cfp/4/ . It's easy to enter and you
should do so now. The advantage of giving talks at INFILTRATE is that
the audience is super technical so your talk is not filled with boring
introductory material on what a heap is or how the web works.

Talks can be about a lot of things at a conference, usually they combine
a paraphrase of "Look how smart I am" with "look how dumb the developers
of this thing are". That's not what INFILTRATE talks are about. The
secret difference of people at this skill level is that they are dancing
more than talking. If you take the marketing out of it, you have a very
different beast. It's not about "being better". INFILTRATE isn't a job
fair. We aim for more of the root of the science, as in the Royal
Society of London <https://royalsociety.org/about-us/history/>. "Take
nobody's word for it."

In other words, what we want INFILTRATE talks to be about is just one
thing: a demonstration not of your mental strength, but of the potential
for mental jiu-jitsu that lies within us all. Please join us!
