In our Daily Diaries #366 and #418, we covered AvosLocker, yet another ransomware that operates in the Ransomware-as-a-Service business model. Avos Ransomware publishes stolen data in their wall of shame, one of the many monitored by our team.

Last month, AvosLocker attacked a US police department, stealing and encrypting data. Curiously, after realizing it was a government agency, AvosLocker provided the decryptor for free.

This year we covered in many of our Daily Diaries the international effort into fighting ransomware, leading to the shutdown and arrest of members of big ransomware operations, like DarkSide and Revil. Although Avos members claim they are not worried about the reaction of law enforcement, this incident shows how cybercrime is avoiding attacking government entities.

We expect in 2022 more successes in the fight against ransomware, making cybercrime more afraid of law enforcement and more cautious in their operations, especially against government agencies, healthcare, critical infrastructure, and other big companies.
