[MART] - Daily Diary #385 - U.S Announced Actions Against REvil Linked Criminals

11/08/2021 - Diary entry #385:


The U.S. Justice Department announced today actions taken against two operators linked with multiple attacks using REvil (a.k.a. Sodinokibi) ransomware - including the Kaseya attack on July 2021. Covered in many of our Dialy Diaries, after the Kaseya attack, REvil had their servers shut down for a while. More recently, they suffered a disruption by multiple law enforcement agencies.


Today, November 8th, the U.S Justice department indicted Yaroslav Vasinskyi (Ukrainian) for conducting ransomware attacks against multiple victims and for being directly involved in the Kaseya attack. The authorities also seized $6.1 million in alleged ransom payments received by Yevgeniy Polyanin (Russian), charged with conducting ransomware attacks as well.


Moreover, two other men linked to REvil were arrested in Romania on November 4th, responsible for the attack against Colonial Pipeline earlier this year in the US. Those actions against ransomware gangs show that law enforcement authorities from different countries are working close and relentlessly to disrupt criminal activities.
