Hello,

I hope everyone is doing well!

Below is the entry for today.

07/29/2022 - Diary entry #563:

Proxyware is a legal application that shares a part of the internet bandwidth available in a system with others. In return, the device owner gets a portion of the revenue from the fees charged to customers.

Recently, new campaigns were spotted using malware, adware bundles, or even hacking vulnerable Microsoft SQL servers to convert them into proxies rented through online proxy services like the Peer2Profit.

Once the proxy software is installed on a device, remote users can use them for any task they want (including illegal activities) on the Internet. At the same time, victims may only notice some slowdowns and internet interruption connectivity.

Therefore, Proxyware can be very profitable for threat actors and used as a kind of residential proxy to act as a legitimate connection. That is why we recommend that organizations that have systems installed with database servers (like MsSQLServer) keep their environment secure and always scan for uncommon activity such as bandwidth usage increase.

Kind Regards,
