Covered in many of our diaries, most recently in our daily diary #395 and #457, Conti Syndicate, the cybercrime group behind the Conti Ransomware, one of the most dangerous ransomware families active today. Conti Ransomware publishes stolen data in their deep-web
page "Conti News", one of the many monitored by our team Ransom-Tracker. During the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine-Russia, Conti Ransomware posted an announcement on their page, announcing "a full support of Russian government" and threatening to "use our all
possible resources to strike back at the critical infrastructure" of anybody that "decide to organize a cyberattack or any war activities against Russia".

<div>After the attention generated by the post, the message was changed, excluding threats to critical infrastructure and saying that Conti group "condemn the ongoing war" and "do not ally with any government". The new message also claims they will strike back
"in case the Western warmongers attempt to target critical infrastructure in Russia or any Russian-speaking region of the world".</div>

<div>It's public that several Ransomware groups, like DarkSide and Conti, are believed to be Russia-based. Some of them implement procedures on their malware to avoid encrypting files of machines from Russia or any former Soviet countries. This incident is
particularly serious, as it implies that cybercrime may take sides on ongoing global conflicts, complicating even more the tension between several countries in the Geopolitical scenario. It should be noted that Conti has a history of making big claims, and
specifically in this case, they probably lack the ability to target critical infrastructure on-demand. However, threats of highly structured cybercrime groups like Conti should not be downplayed.</div>

Given this conflict scenario, we recommend any organizations even remotely connected to the conflict areas to increase cyber vigilance. It's not clear how Conti or other cybercrime group would accomplish those threats, but either way, organizations from those
should tight up their security measures.
